Baby Photography

Bringing a baby into the world is such a special time in your lives. To capture those magic moments as they grow is a beautiful thing, from holding their head up and sitting all by themselves, right through to crawling and taking their first few steps! Our baby photography will capture this for you.

 Baby photography

We know how important it is to hold on to those memories and how precious time is. Which is why at Pauls studio we offer a baby photography package which is completely free! Our Cherubs Club entitles you to visit us 3 times during your baby’s first year, at our air conditioned and modern studio where we will capture beautifully natural photographs of your baby as they grow. At the end of your third session you’ll be presented with a beautiful triple folio album, compliments of Pauls Studio.

Creative baby photography

Your Cherubs Club experience begins in your baby’s first few months, you’ll then return for your second photoshoot when your baby begins to sit up unaided. Your final photoshoot takes place when your baby takes those wonderful first steps. As your baby grows and develops we’ll photograph the changes they’re making for you to treasure forever. Each session lasts up to an hour in which time we will photograph your baby and anyone else you want to bring along. Family is more than welcome to join in the photoshoot or just sit in and watch; it may also make your baby feel more relaxed if they are surrounded by familiar faces.

Baby photography

After each of your baby photography sessions you’ll be invited back to view your photographs in our state of the art viewing room. Sit back and relax whilst you watch a slideshow of your baby’s photographs. At each viewing you’ll choose your favourite photograph to go in your triple folio album. You’ll receive your album after your third viewing session. Of course you are welcome to purchase any other photographs you wish from your session. We offer a range of different products – mounted prints, bespoke frames, acrylics and high resolution DVD’s – to fit any home and budget.

The style of baby photography we offer consists of a mixture of both natural and more creative styles. Our studio is set up with a range of coloured backgrounds & props, such as suitcases, colourful hats and chairs. In each photo session we use a selection of backgrounds and props in order to create the best variety of photographs for you to choose from. It’s important to us that your baby feels happy and content so we also use toys and personal items to provide a fun and relaxed environment.

Last night we had a fantastic evening at the London and Essex Professional Photography awards.

The London and Essex Professional Photography group is a yearly event where professional photographers from London and Essex come together and enter their work in hope of winning an award.

After a lovely meal we took our seats and were introduced to Andy Earl, our judge for the evening.

He began with a brief introduction about himself, followed by a slide show where he talked us through the kind of work he has produced over the years. He is very much involved in the music industry and has photographed many bands and musicians such as Madonna, Prince, Robbie Williams and Johnny Cash’s iconic American recordings album cover and successful book.

This year’s London and Essex Professional Photography competition showcased a range of different categories and styles within the professional photography field from creative wedding photography right through to Commercial, Advertising Industrial and Architectural photography.

Andy took us through all the entries providing a short critique which was very constructive and insightful. Following a short break the winners were announced.

We were delighted that Paul was awarded London and Essex Group Creative Wedding Photographer 2013 along with London and Essex Group Family Portrait photographer 2013.

Portrait Photography – a brief history and understanding

      May 9th, 2013

A brief history and understanding of Portrait Photography

      Paul's Studio Portrait Photography

The art of portraits dates back as far as cavemen. The idea being to capture a moment in time; producing a record. As technological developments were made we have progressed through paintings to the photographs we take today. Since the development of the camera in the 19th Century, the art of portrait photography has developed rapidly.

As with the development of art, through time the style and trends of portrait photography has changed dramatically. Early portraits featured mainly plain backgrounds, formal posing and simple lighting. Over the years as technology has moved on, the photographic industry has opened up to a whole new world and allowed photographers to expand on technicality and creativity of portrait photography. This could include experimentation of perspective, composition, lighting and introducing props. And of course photographic equipment and techniques have been developed which has allowed photographers to capture images with shorter exposure times and be alot more creative.

      Portrait Photography

Lighting is very important in portrait photography. There are so many effects you can create with one light alone, so to introduce two more; the possibilities are endless. However there are common lighting plans which most photographers tend to use; unless you are purposely breaking the rules to be creative.

To bring out the natural expression and personality in a person is a whole other art in itself. As a studio we like to build a rapport with our clients first, this way we can get to know you and find out exactly what you would like from your shoot. It’s important to us that you feel relaxed and confident, this way we are able to bring out the best in you!

      Portrait Photography at Paul's Studio

To capture a moment in someone’s life whether it be an engagement between a couple, a special friendship or the new life of a baby is something very rewarding to us here at Paul’s Studio and is what makes our job so enjoyable!

Wedding Photography at the Ye Old Plough House

        May 1st, 2013

Wedding Photography at the Ye Olde Plough   House

Ye Old Plough House Wedding Photography

Thank you to Mr and Mrs Kittle for taking the time to fill out this questionaire on their Wedding Photography at Ye Olde Plough House.

What date was your wedding and why did you choose Ye Olde Plough House?

Our wedding was on Saturday 19th May, and held at Ye Olde Plough House, Bulphan, near Brentwood.  We didn’t want to have a wedding breakfast, and Ye Olde Plough House were able to offer us The Cavalier Suite for our ceremony and whilst we were having our drinks reception and photographs they turned it into our evening venue, complete with resident DJ.  The gardens are beautiful at Ye Olde Plough House; a definite bonus with this venue. It was the perfect choice to enable our guests to stay over and have breakfast together.

Did you have a colour scheme ?

Our colour was described as hot coral, and really suited all three bridesmaids.

         Pauls Studio Wedding Photography

What were your dress and suit like?

Debbie’s dress was a strapless, fitted ivory lace and chiffon gown with a small train, designed by Alfred Sung and was made in Canada. It was bought through Confetti and Lace, at Lakeside.  Debbie borrowed her headdress from her sister, Victoria, and her jewellery was a birthday gift from her mum and sister. The shoes were ivory silk with a Swarovski crystal detail from Benjamin Adams. Dave hired a grey tail suit with ivory shirt, tie and a waistcoat with a floral design arranged by Debbie’s friend who works at Anthony’s Menswear in Billericay.

         Ye Olde Plough Wedding Photography

Who were your bridesmaids/flowers girls/ page boys? What were their outfits like?

The bridesmaids were Dave’s daughters Jennie and Leah, Dave’s niece Ocean, and the pageboys were Debbie’s nephews, Ralph and Dylan.  The bridesmaids wore Mori Lee full length strapless dresses with a diamanté detail on the hip also bought at Confetti and Lace, Lakeside.  They wore crystal headdresses and silver shoes. The boys wore a mini version of Dave’s suit to match the ushers, but with plain waistcoats.

What personal extras did you have for your wedding?

Dave is a windsurfer and so the only choice is a VW camper van.  We found Millie, though Cool Classic Cars, a camper bus and couldn’t wait to arrive to the sound of The Beach Boys playing!

         Ye Old Plough

        What flowers did you have?

The flowers were cream Cala lillies, freesia and roses with green foliage, the bridesmaids had mini versions without the lillies from Petals and Plants in Stanford-le-Hope.

        What cake did you have?

We took ages to decide on our cake, and looked at loads of pictures. Then whilst walking round a wedding fayre, we saw it. A new design by Jeannie’s Cakes, and the first time she had shown it. We had replicas of our flowers made in sugar, and one of them was colour matched to a sample we gave. We had fruit and sponge layers, it must have been good because it all disappeared before we got a piece ourselves!

         Pauls Studio Wedding Photography

What table decorations did you have at your wedding?

We planned to do all the research for the wedding ourselves, but matching the colour of the bridesmaids dresses proved a challenge.  We searched for some help through a venue decorator and contacted Sharon at Vision Balloons.  Sharon met Debbie at the venue to talk through the whole day and what she wanted. Sharon really wanted to understand everything and to take away some pressure.  She said she could find the colour and we put our trust in her, she was great. We had white chair covers over the venue’s chairs, with hot coral sashes. The sashes continued around the cake table and wishing well table. The tables had white tall arrangements which lit up, with white feather plumes, sitting on glass circles with coral and clear crystals.  Outside the venue  around shrub arrangements and pillars were battery operated twinkle lights to add some sparkle.

Where did you go on honeymoon?

We went to Kuramathi Island in the Maldives (Kuramathi.com).  We flew the day after the wedding to Mali airport then transferred by seaplane to the island.  The view of the reefs as you flew over the islands was truly magical.  We stayed in a beach front villa with thatched roof, an outside bathroom and wonderful fresh food often cooked in front of you. It was a no-shoes resort, where everywhere was soft white sand like you see in the pictures. An absolutely magical place and definitely a wrench to leave!! Just perfect.

         paul_067

Is there any other personal information that you would like me to include such as special vows, entertainment, special mention to family members etc.?

Debbie asked her school friend to do the reading and, Jackie James flew over from Dubai with her husband Jason.

A friend of Debbie’s, Denise Tomlin designed the wedding invitations, they were then unique and everyone’s name was personally printed on the invites. We spent all day one Sunday with paper, scissors and glue making them up. It was just like Blue Peter!

Dave asked his windsurfing mate, Ray Robertson to be his best man, they went for a full English breakfast, a Turkish shave and could not resist stopping by the beach to see their fellow surfers on the morning of the wedding.

Debbie is extremely grateful to Anil Das for agreeing to give her away.

Debbie walked in to Shania Twain “From this moment”, and we walked out to Black Eyes Peas “I gotta feeling”.

Dave’s ushers were Russel Apperley-Janes (his brother-in-law), Stuart Johnson (Debbie’s brother) and Graham Williams (Debbie’s brother-in-law).

Victoria Johnson and Sue Apperley-Janes (Debbie’s and Dave’s sisters) were a huge support, especially on the day and we can’t thanks them enough.

Lastly, a huge thank you to Debbie’s mum Brenda, for her support, and all our friends and family who made our day just perfect.

         Ye Old Plough

Why did you choose Pauls Studio for your wedding?

We knew this wasn’t going to be an easy decision but we knew that we would know instantly when we found the right one.  The flyer for Paul’s Studio came through the door and immediately we felt they were different, their photos came alive on the flyer and thought “we’ve found him”‘ we couldn’t wait to go to the studio and meet Paul. Paul was totally reassuring, understood what we wanted to achieve and gave us the confidence that he was the right choice.  We had an engagement shoot which took away all Debbie’s nervousness about being photographed, we had a great time.  On the day, Paul went with the flow, he had a calmness which everyone felt and his photos are absolutely amazing.  We tried to choose 50 photos but it was impossible to choose, so we ended up having 70! We are really, really pleased the final album. Thank you Paul, and all at Paul’s Studio.  We would definitely recommend them to any bride and groom, you won’t be disappointed.

          Gosfield Hall Wedding Photography

What date was your wedding and why did you choose Gosfield Hall?
11th May 2012 at Gosfield Hall, We wanted a Spring Wedding as we were hoping for good weather. We looked at Lots of venues and none seemed to have the ‘wow’ factor, Charlie Fell in love with Gosfield Hall after viewing it with her mum and reserved a date there and then, Sam went back the following day to look at the Venue and loved it.

            pAUL_145

Did you have a colour Scheme?
Charlie wanted a Lemon colour scheme, Sam didn’t really get much of a say :) Lemon seemed to be different to what lots of people choose and it fitted in well with the time of year.

          Gosfield Hall

What were your dress and suit like? Where did you get them? Did you have any special extras for your outfits such as shoes, hair accessories etc.?

Charlies Dress was an Enzoani Fawn Dress bought from Bellissima in South Woodham Ferrers. It was Ivory lace with a tulle skirt that had petal details in the bottom. Charlie changed the belt on the dress to a beaded one to add a bit of sparkle. Sams wore a grey three piece suit with Lemon Cravat to match the Bridesmaids colour scheme. Sams suit was from Tailered Image in Great Baddow, Chelmsford.

          Gosfield hall

Who were your bridesmaids/flowers girls/ page boys? What were their outfits like?

We had 4 Bridesmaids, Sam, Hannah, Becca and Alys, all good friends of ours. They wore Lemon floor length dresses that had flower detail to the shoulder strap. These were also bought from Bellissima in South Woodham Ferrers. Lewis, our four year old son was our page boy and he wore a grey three piece suit to match the rest of the men. Charlies brothers Mark and Matt were ushers and Sams friend Steve, who is also Bridesmaid Hannahs Husband, was the best Man.

          Gosfield Hall

What personal extras did you have such as cars etc?

We didn’t hire any wedding cars as we were there early morning to start getting ready and as we stayed at Gosfield Hall overnight, we felt we didnt need traditional wedding cars. Instead, Charlies parents decorated their cars and drove Charlie and the Bridesmaids to the venueWe chose to have a String Quartet, La Scala play for the Ceremony and Reception drinks.

          What flowers did you have?

We had Lemon and Cream flowers, mainly roses and Charlie had David Austin roses in her Bouquet. The flowers were by Blossom Hill in Danbury, Chelmsford.

          pAUL_134

          What cake did you have?

We had a three tier cake which was decorated with sugar buttons and ivory ribbon. We chose one tier Lemon and one chocolate as the filling and Sam chose peanut butter as the filing for the top tier so he could take it home and have it for himself!! Kitty at Knicker Boccie Choccie in Coggeshall made our cake.

          Gosfield hall

What table decorations did you have? What colours, flowers, favours etc. did you have?

We had cream and lemon flowers placed on Glass cake stands as centre pieces for each table, something quite simple as the room itself was stunning. For Favours the men had Miniature bottles of Port and the ladies had miniature purses with roses in.
Where did you go on honeymoon?

We went to Barbados on our Honeymoon for 10 nights. We stayed at a Lovely All Inclusive Hotel on St James Beach. The weather was amazing and the food was too. We spent our honeymoon relaxing, snorkelling and swimming with turtles. We are hoping to return for our 1 year anniversary!
          Gosfield Hall

Traditional Turkish Wedding Photography in Essex

                February 24th, 2013

m_PS_20120901_0839For thousands of years, most Turkish weddings took place in small villages with no proper orchestra so their musical tradition is always drums and trumpets.

These also provide the music for probably the most famous tradition of a Turkish wedding – the Testih or pot dance. This is meant to symbolise the bride losing her virginity.

                m_PS_20120901_1450
All the single girls dance in a circle – some more willingly than others – taking it in turns to dance in the centre with a clay pot, whilst the guests throw money to – or pin money on – the bridge and groom.

Once each girl has danced in the centre on her own, the pot is smashed on the floor by either the bride or the groom to reveal sweets and coins for the children.

A red veil or coat is also significant and some brides also have their hands decorated with red henna – one tradition says that the bride does not have to do any housework whilst the henna still remains on her hands.

                  Award Winning Wedding Photography Essex

                  February 15th, 2013

wedding photography essexIf you search Google for wedding photography, Essex has hundreds of them. So what can you do to ensure that the one you choose will make everything perfect on your special day?

Paul Fowler has been taking stunning wedding photos for nearly twenty years – for the last decade as the owner of Pauls Studio in the Victoria Shopping Centre in Southend, Essex.

It is this experience which helps Paul to guide the bridal couple to the best shots – whether your wedding photography will be in Essex, Kent, Hertfordshire, Suffolk, London… or anywhere in the world.

Experienced Wedding Photography at Essex Venues

In the last two decades, Paul and his team have taken photographs at wedding venues all over Essex, including such prestigious settings as Stock Brook Manor in Billericay, The Lawn in Rochford, Le Talbooth in Dedham, Leez Priory near Chelmsford, Braxted Park in Witham and the Roslin Beach Hotel in Southend-on-Sea.

Pauls Studio’s photographers take the time to get to know their couples with an engagement shoot, which is included in the price of the wedding package. This means that, on the big day itself, the couple have come to trust both the camera and the person behind the lens.

Their skill is in taking relaxed, artistic, reportage style photography – hiding the fact that it is actually very carefully choreographed. His goal is to ensure that he captures all the right group shots, along with every intimate detail as a lasting memory.
